William Shakespeare, the greatest English playwright, was born in 1564 in Stratford-on-Avon in England. Stratford is a small country town in the farming district near the centre of England. Avon, which is a pretty river with grass and trees all along its banks, runs through Stratford. Not much is known of Shakespeare's father. He was a farmer who, at different times of his life, sold meat and bought and sold wool. He was poor and was often in money difficulties. Very little is known about the life of his only son William. Also little house in which the great writer was born still stands. It is now a museum. William went to school in Stratford. In 1586 he went to London. Probably the first work he did there was at one of the two theatres that there were in London at that time. Then he became an actor and soon began to write plays for a company of actors to which he belonged. Shakespeare bought the largest house in his home town in 1597, but he did not spend much time there till 1610. He spent last years of his life in it.1. 1) Is there a book on the table? 2) Where is a book? 3) There is a book on the table, isn't it? 2. 1) Must he work hard today? 2) How must he work today? 3) He must work hard today, mustn't he? 3. 1) Are we leaving for Moscow next week? 2) When are we leaving for Moscow? 3) We are leaving for Moscow next week, aren't we? 4. 1) Were we reading the whole evening? 2) How much time were we reading? 3) We were reading the whole evening, weren't we? 5. 1) Do they go to work on Sunday? 2) When do they not go to work? 3) They don't go to work on Sunday, do they? 6. 1) is it cold today? 2) What's the weather like today? 3) it is not cold today, is it? 7. 1) Has Ann already begun to read …? 3) Ann has already begun to read a new book, hasn't she? 8. 1) Do we learn …? 2) What do we learn at school? 3) We learn English at school, don't we? 9. 1) Will they show …? 2) What will they show you? 3) They will show you how to get there, won't they?
