When the idea for the story of Harry Potter entered her head, she could never have predicted what an incredible success her books would be. From humble beginnings to worldwide fame, J.K Rowling is proof that reaching your dreams is possible if you have a creative mind and the determination to work hard. Joanne Kathleen Rowling grew up on the outskirts of Bristol in the South West of England, and Chepstow in Wales. She always enjoyed making up stories, but it wasn't until 1990 that she created Harry Potter and began writing the series of books which is now loved by millions. After moving to Portugal, getting married and giving birth to her first child, she moved back to the UK after her marriage broke up. It was in Edinburgh where Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was finished, and eventually picked up by a publisher.
